I’d just like to say that a while ago ( 2007 ) we bought a brand new Toyota Rav4 that would burn oil and on one long trip i used regular oil and burnt 2 quarts and the second time around i made the same LONG trip BUT THIS TIME WITH full synthetic oil z as nd it only burnt 1 quart, that’s when i found out that synthetic does make a difference !

A lot of those high mileage engine oils have sealed conditioners in them that are meant to swell the seals and make them seal better, but then that will eventually make the seals disintegrate

April 27 2025

3
  MassiveGarbage

Just put a quart of every brand in and you will be fine.

April 27 2025

5
  Thehappyfarmer-e8c

The oil specs may be the same but the detergents/additives are not the same.

April 27 2025

5
  Highspedlowdrag

Synthetic blend is certainly a waste because it still needs changing around 3k just as conventional oil. Pure Synthetic is only afew dollars more and can go up to 5k before changing.

Is a high mileage oil worth it

April 27 2025

3
  maker7901

my thing is this if a car starts to get alot of miles and it uses 5w20 and i have heard that when a engine get older and get more miles its best to move over to a thicker oil like 10w 30 for example.

Newer engines are really sensitive to the exact type of oil they need. If the generic meets or exceeds what the manufacturer says then I will agree.

Oil is not oil they are all different for a reason and all preform different. People read and see one thing and go with it like they make it. If you took classes and tested it you would know they are NOT all made equal . So stop using shitty super tech garbage people .

If you can afford the extra few dollars Castrol is worth it. Heat tolerance in extreme conditions far better in Castrol synthetic oils.

There are only a handful of oil refineries in the United States and all the brands that you see in the store that are from the US will run through those refineries so yes paying for overpriced oil is ridiculous even the supertech from Walmart meets all those requirements that were discussed in this YouTube short

Not true

April 27 2025

3
  1490WKRO

That may be good for the older vehicles, but all of these new vehicles they have to have their own certain brand of oil you can’t just put whatever you want to in there and think the 1970s are all over again. You have to use a certain oil which today is much more better engine where starts when you crank the enginethat’s where most engine war begins is that start up not 90,000 miles into it people so learn that today engine war begins when you start the engine that’s all

Lubrication tech- Not true. They both pass the minimum specification for certification. But there are differences and some far surpass the minimum requirements, fact.

If you change cheap oil every 3000 miles or less you’ll be ok in a warm or mild climate but most people are going 5 to 7 thousand miles between oil changes and this is we’re slug can start building up

April 27 2025

4
  Matt-d8m

Ratings are a minimum requirement.

April 27 2025

4
  MortonWinfrey

Not necessarily true. Some oils contain specific additives that are required by certain manufacturers. Need to do some sincere research as to “why” certain manufacturers require a specific oil. An example is in a motorcycle with a wet clutch that uses the crankcase oil. Not all oils are created equal, even with the same rating.

2006 Buick LaCrosse with less than 80,000 miles. Quaker State I was going through a quart every 1,000 miles. Switched to Castrol 4,000 miles before needing a quart

April 27 2025

Absolutely 100% CORRECT!!!.......I have a 2012 VW Passat....inline 5 cyl.....bought it brand new..I change my oil roughly every 4000 miles give or take over the yrs...I have over 200,000 miles on it..and it runs absolutely great ...no leaking or smoking at all..I avg approx 25 mpg....and I use Walmarts Brand Oil..I buy the 5 qt jug..usually around $ 18 or so for the 5 qt jug..and I use Walmarts brand oil filters as well..

Project Farms experiments beg to differ

April 27 2025

3
  woodywillmon4968

There is a difference in name brand oil and cheap oil. The difference is in the oil package (additives) cleaners, zinc and other stuff. Just like there is a difference in top tier gas (more additives then Government standards) and sams club gas with minimum Government standards).

April 27 2025

5
  nrhareiner

There actually is a different in oils. Well the additives. Base oils are really the same. While if all you want is a good oil. Ya. The cheaper ones are as good or better then most of the more expensive ones. However different oils will do different things. So you need to decide if cheap that might not clean as well vs a more expensive oil that cleans better. Also what oil filtration are you using. A oil bypass a catch can exct

April 27 2025

3
  The1WhoKnowsTheTruth

Let me see…. O’Reillys cheap stuff or Amsoil. Both the same right? Hahahahahaha.

April 27 2025

4
  WaltShear-mz5ug

Most new cars today REQUIRE full synthetic. Many older cars require synthetic blend oil. These requirements come from the manufacturer, and if not followed will void the warranty!

April 27 2025

4
  gowengetter4599

Using fresh cheap oil is better than not changing your oil at all. By the best you can afford along with a new filter.

April 27 2025

3
  1010109999999

Folks Scotty is right you can use cheaper oil but you have to change it more often because it breaks down faster than the expensive oil so me personally I will go with the expensive oil❤

April 27 2025

3
  foodooyou1

Same oil and both meet MINIMUM standards are way different. All oil is okay to use, not all oil is best/superior.

April 27 2025

4
  BartSparrow123

Of course the "PETROLEUM INSTITUTE" certified these oils, the are in the business of selling petroleum products!
