Also, another good drawing paper is prismacolor paper. I got a prismacolor drawing pad, and nothing soaks through it.

The only paper that you should never use for copics is watercolour paper, especially cold press. It will destroy the nib and consume your ink more. I learned it the hard way.

I was literally drawing with my alchohol markers and scrolling through shorts, and this guys pulls out the exact same mixedmedia sketchbook im using
May 08 2025
yep, i can tell u firsthand that’s true: Never use printer paper or else it will bleed through at least two pages.
(sorry if i did not write this correctly)

I love using my mixed media sketchbook with copics for sketching and smaller drawings but for finished works I use actual marker paper lol
May 08 2025
This is so stupid. I care more about blending than bleeding. Also thin paper = less ink used.
Are you getting sponsored by Copic or something?

I use smooth watercolor paper it does just fine it does the job and I can store it like photo cards

I have wanted these markers for YEARS. Finally bought a 6 pack to test out before I dropped hundreds on every color. I hate the bleeding. I’ve yet to find one thing these markers don’t annihilate. I’m shocked at how bad the bleeding is.

u can use mixed media paper just place another piece of paper under neath it or buy those plastic sheets that u get when u buy ohuhu markers

Through my experience mixed media is way better then the Coptic marker pad because it actually bleeds less and if you see his blending on the mixed media and then on Copic the mixed media blending is better and this guy can’t blend!

I use canson mixed media and pen and ink. I have the Copic ciao and they work perfect!

No offense but its just a little funny that you say not to use several types of different paper because the markers bleed through the paper but then when showing the paper you suggest using, it bleeds through also. There is reason to use several different types of paper based on your personal preference. I personally stick to bristol, vellum or smooth. Because the paper is made up of layers that are pressed together making the paper very resilient against any fluid medium from soaking into the paper quickly which allows you to blend much easier and when the ink dries more of the pigment is on the top of the paper, adding just a bit more vibrancy to the color. That my preference though and there are pros to other types of paper as well.

I use alchohol markers not posca anymore its so expensive in my country cuz 1 color = 224 pesos

Did you know the best paper for copic marker is copic marker paper : No Kidding Sherlock
May 08 2025
Doesn’t matter what you use, it’ll bleed through. Also doesn’t matter the brand of marker either. It’s a watery medium and if you want to blend it’s going to happen no matter what you use. Thats why some brands even provide a sheet of plastic you can put behind your paper.

All markers bleed through, thats the reason why you have to put another sheet of paper behind your drawings when you color
May 08 2025
Mine bleeds but I hate that my colours for some odd reason like to get random colours mixed with it and it is so annoying and I’m not sure if it’s the paper or the marker?

Um can i ask a question uh is it okay if i can use my copic markers on a sketch book? I really wanna know so it doesnt go through the paper
May 08 2025
Ive used printer paper my all life. All you need to do is out something up under it (for example, a old notebook)

Please can you search bfdi and draw the my favorite characters for next please
May 08 2025
Bristrol is the best i can do a lot of layers, the result is so vivid and flat + they are resistent not like those shit layout marker papers

Your observations are accurate but your conclusion is Grade-A bullshit. Mixed-Media paper, as the name suggests can handle most media. If you want to use markers in combination with, watercolour, charcoal, pastel, gouache, acrylic or any other medium, you are better off using mixed-media paper. Marker paper is better when using ONLY markers and pen.

thats why copic added those clear pads for thin paper
Edit: thought it was ohuhu

This must be a copic sponsored video. Copic paper is so not readily available and accessible in the USA it’s ridiculous. It is only plentiful and in bulk in Japan where it’s on more shelves than anywhere else. I have seen copic paper in scant few stores, most of which were dick blick chain stores, and then in a couple of smaller independently owned stores where they had to order it and it took like two weeks for it to come in. I live in Chicago and it’s not that readily available in the store that is DOWNTOWN! It’s just hit or miss on if they have it or ordered it or not. That’s not a good tip at all. You can use strathmore board and it works just fine for ANY type of medium you want. If you’re not comfortable using it, you can always use watercolor paper. It’s a lot cheaper and easier to find. This is a plug video for him to get a commission.

My tip: don’t worry about bleed through, just put a sacrifial paper behind :)
I know some pro designers who would never ever use specific marker paper, since it has a very distinct feel, almost like all ink just floats on the surface and dries unevenly, with small white bubbles. And even fancy marker paper will bleed through if you go on the same spot enough times.
I very much prefer the softer gradients and edges from drawing on more porous sketch paper. If i was doing hard surface like glass i might use marker paper, but i just don’t like the feel. And its way cheaper with sketch paper which is important for me, since i use copic/promarkers to test thought and concepts quickly, not feeling bad turning the page and starting over. You do use more ink on more porous sketch paper, so the traditional argument i have heard is that marker paper saves you money on ink but with how cheap and good the copic competition has become, i don’t see this argument being relevant at all any more.
My perspective is from someone who have studied industrial design, so that changes a lot how i use sketching compared to a pure illustrator.
The only thing i used my marker paper for now is as sacrifical backing paper and bookmark.
Honestly, just try a bunch of different paper, it will change the feel of the markera a lot, there is no right or wrong, only fun and preference
