We’re back with another digital piano review, and today we’ll explore the Roland RP107 home digital piano. nnThe RP107 replaces the popular RP102 and serves as Roland’s entry-level home digital piano. nnPlease like, subscribe and hit that notification bell!nnOverviewnThe RP107 occupies a very crowded place in the market, with other popular console options available in the same general price range including the Kawai KDP7 and KDP120, Yamaha YDP145 and YDP165, as well as the Casio PX770 and PX870. nnWhere does the RP107 fit in? What does it bring to the table to make it stand out? Let’s start with the tone engine. nnPiano SoundnThe RP107 receives Roland’s new BMC chip, driving their updated sample-based SuperNATURAL sound engine. The polyphony gets doubled here to 256 notes, and the BMC chip is just able to provide much more complexity than what the RP102 was capable of. nnThis version of the SuperNATURAL engine has a very fat attack across the entire range of the instrument. It’s going to work very well for different types of contemporary playing, but can be a little bit overbearing for classical. nnThere are 15 total onboard sounds, and they’ve also received a bump thanks to the BMC chip. nnPiano ActionnPiano action is always a crucial consideration, and if you’re looking for a piano for a beginner, a good action ensures the development of good technique. nnThe RP107 receives Roland’s tried and true PHA4 action, which is a pro-quality key action. If there’s one spec where the RP107 really stands out against its peers, it’s the PHA4 action. The best action in the class in fact in our opinion. nnIt features a triple sensor for great sensitivity and escapement (let-off) which adds deeper control. The weighting is slightly heavier, similar in fact to a smaller baby grand piano. There are also textures on the keytops too. nnSpeakersnWhen it comes to the speaker performance, the RP107 is a little bit underwhelming, not in terms of the quality, but in terms of the power as it maxes out at 16 watts of speaker power. nnThis is an improvement from the 102 and its 12 watts of power, but it’s still not delivering the same type of power as the Kawai KDP120 or Casio PX870 and their 40-watt systems for example. nnNow, Roland builds excellent speaker boxers, and the design itself is very good, so we can’t be too hard on the speakers. nnFeatures/ConnectivitynThe RP107 comes with an integrated stand and triple pedal, along with a bench and music rest. It’s available in a Black finish. nnConnectivity consists of Bluetooth MIDI, USB Type A and B and dual headphone jacks. nnFeatures include over 300 built-in songs, metronome, transpose, dual and Twin Piano mode. nnClosing ThoughtsnFirst and foremost, if the RP107 is going to be the right fit for you, it’s important that you enjoy the sounds. The Kawai, Yamaha and Casio options all sound quite different in the class, so ultimately it comes down to which sound you prefer. nnFrom an action standpoint, the 107 definitely has the best action in the class, so that’s a big plus. The speaker power isn’t huge, but the quality and detail of the sound are very good. nnOverall, another nice instrument from Roland and a great option for folks seeking a good quality, entry-level home digital piano. nnConnect with Merriam Music:n● Website ▸ https://www.merriammusic.com/n● Contact Us ▸ https://www.merriammusic.com/contact/n● Instagram ▸ https://instagram.com/merriammusic/n● Facebook ▸ https://www.facebook.com/MerriamMusicn● Twitter ▸ https://twitter.com/merriammusicinc

seems they alreay note deffect design from rp102 and add a more power amplifier, hope they will add fuse on left speaker to avoid the low power amplifier clipping damage the driver

Great review, how does this stack up against the FP-E50? For 1st digital piano for uni student after playing acoustic upright at home...

I really can Not understand why somebody would spend nearly 2000$ for a digi piano that only sounds good with headphones. The reviews showing the line sound in 95% of the time, the other 5% real Sound via microphones are revealing a boxy caged sound.

With just the speakers the piano sounds a bit thin and tinny kind of like a smallish size acoustic piano. Really appreciate the honest demo.

I have never owned a Roland (or even played one at a store), but since subscribing to this channel, I have learned so much about Roland, and have become a big fan. Thanks Stu--you have convinced me to venture out to my local store so I can experience it first hand.

Hello, I have a question. So I’ve been watching a lot of your reviews lately and I’ve seen so many good digital pianos. However, I was wondering if you could tell me what the best digital piano out there for $2000 and under is. I’m willing to spend that 2000 if it’s worth the buy, but I just don’t know which digital piano truly provides the best of the best when it comes to sound quality, key feel, ect. Up for any recommendations of any brands

Does the Roland F-107 have similar "tone ports" to those Stu points to on the front (by key cover) and top (at the joint with the side piece) of the RP-107?

I’m having a hard time deciding between the RP107 and the Casio PX870, which are both the same price in USD. We have an upright Yamaha P22. This would be for my young daughter who has played piano for 4 years as a secondary practice instrument. Thoughts? Thank you for your wonderful videos!

Hi, I played for a while and stopped. Now I wanna start again and thinking about the RP 107 and the RP701. Can you give me some Recomendation? I am based in germany. The RP107 would cost me 900€ and the RP 701 1125€. I wonder if the 200€ more are worth it? Id appreciate any help.

Hello Stu, I know that both pianos have PH4 action, but do FP30x and F107 have exactly the same keyboard? Does the FP30x lose anything by being portable? thanks.

Today I got my new Roland F107 digital piano. Since there are no Roland dealers in my area, I bought it online (used but like new). What a disappointment. Compared to my 20 year old Clavinova CLP115, it feels and sound like a toy. The keyboard is terrible, cheap and plasticky, the sound is awful even compared to the old Yamaha. The cabinetry is cheap. The specs might be impressive on paper, but in reality it is an inferior product. The only good thing is that I got it very cheap and can resell it without problems.

Guitar Center has Roland RP501 on sale for now and was about to buy it but saw this RP107 and now I am stock on which to get. They have also a Williams Overture III on sale. What would you recommend?

Hi, stu. Could you tell me the piano setting? I just bought RP107, but my piano sound is not clean, sounds like cloged or blocked by something.
