You don’t need the original memory card for the slim and pstv (aka a pa bita but turned into a home console), but if you have the oled model, then you NEED to have a regular memory card in order to jailbreak it, however there is an exploit for the ps vita oled that allows you to use 1gb of storage

Yes, after formatting the sd card you select which one you will use as the primary storage.
For the older fat psvita you actually need a sony memory card to jailbreak it since that model has no internal storage

You have to format it before installing it in your vita from your computer then go into the vita’s settings and format it again hopefully that fixes your issue

I have a modded phat version of the vita with the expensive proprietary Sony memory card. I have purchased sd2vita and a 128 GB SD card but I have no idea how to safely transfer everything from the proprietary memory to the other SD card without getting my ps vita bricked.

You'd have to reformat your storage every time you want to play physical games. It's a pain to do everytime, but it's worth it because by the time you mod it, you have literally every single vita and psp game at your disposal.

Even tho this comment is months later, I really wished Sony didn’t make such a greedy and dumb decision to make a specific storage for the vita. They easily could’ve made it sd compatible but decided to squeeze out some change from the people who bought the vita. The biggest gripe I have with this is the fact they stopped making them, now the vita owners have to battle scalpers to buy extremely overpriced memory cards.

There are instructions as part of the jailbreak/homebrew steps on how to copy (it's pretty easy). The whole thing takes about 10 minutes (and half of that is all the rebooting).
