This video is designed to give you a basic understanding of the differences between porcelain and ceramic tiles. There are a lot of misconceptions regarding what these products are and how they will perform. nnOne of the biggest myths I find shoppers have is that porcelain tiles are the same color all the way through while ceramics are not. If you flip over the back of most tiles, you will notice that whether it is a porcelain or ceramic it is not the same as the glaze on the top of tile. Unless you are dealing with a through-body/color body porcelain, the majority of your man made products are glazed with a different color in the actually tile.nnAnother major myth is that porcelain is better than ceramic. Though a true certified porcelain is the superior strength product, the problem is a lot of products that are marked as porcelains do not actually meet the standards by which we certify such tiles. This is most typical with products that are made in China, but I do show you in this video the exact mark you want to look for to verify a product truly is a certified porcelain tile.nnThe great news in shopping for tile today is that all products have improved dramatically and you don't have to buy the top of the line options to get a great looking product. The reality is that in most instances, you will spend more on the installation than on the product, and that will ultimately make the biggest impact on how the final results look.nnPlease be sure to drop any questions you may have in the comments section below and thanks for stopping by. If you liked this video, be sure to hit the like button for me and subscribe if you'd like to see more!nnIf you are looking for a grout sealer I have a fantastic product for you. This Aerosol spray is made in the U.S. and can seal your grout and natural stone products whether they have just been installed or have been down for years. Its a DIY application that you can simply spray on your cleaned product and walk away. nnAdvanced Ultimate Fast Grout Seal: https://amzn.to/3Wk5PtC

Just a technical isssue about your video. Your camera is about a foot low. You will be far more effective if your camera is in line with your eyes and not tilted up. Cheers! :)

Hi. Thanks for making this video and sharing your knowledge. Its so hard to tell apart ceramic from porcelain. I have been reading about tiles and watching a lot of videos here about tiles. Im very confused about what the term "vitrified" tile means. I have seen this term used a lot in India and the tiles look similar to porcelain tiles or marble tiles. I just did a google search and saw that vitrified tile is made with a combination of silica and clay and that they are different than both porcelain tiles and cermaic tiles. Just never seen them here in the US or perhaps theyre known as something else? Just curious to hear what your thoughts are. Thanks again though and hope I can figure this out :)

Porcelain should never have been allowed on walls. I mean the weight of the tiles plus adhesive is heavy. Plasterboard was not designed to take that weight.

This was very helpful! Tha k you very much for the information! Now how would grout lines between porcelain and ceramic compare? I have read in different places that ceramic tile grout lines are harder to clean or more susceptible to stains. Could you elaborate more on this based on your experience? Thank you so much!

Porcelain plates are so heavy. Therefore I use glass plates. I prefer lighter tiles. How much is the weight difference between porcelain and ceramic normally? I would then prefer ceramic. Maybe ceramic will also breathe better and still keep water away?

As a potter let me give you a couple pointers. First you bake a cake. You fire a ceramic. A ceramic or porcelain require a temperature way much higher than baking. Baking is for foods in an oven and firing is for a ceramic in a kiln. No oven can make ceramics or porcelain while a kiln can be used but not recommended for baking.
