- My grandpa had a camp deep in the woods in Southern VT. In the 80s and 90s you could only get there in the winter on sleds or by snowshoeing in. On 12/31/83 I was a month old and my grandpa brought me to that camp inside his snow suit on a yamaha exciter. I bought that camp after it got to be too much for him in the 2010s. For the past five or six years the snow cover has been so inconsistent/thin that I can get a side by side in there year round. All I see in the winter in southern VT now are side by sides and some ATVs but very few sleds. When Polaris celebrates its 100 year anniversary will there be any snowmobiles going in the lower 48 outside of races and isolated spots at the highest altitudes? Will I be able to teach my grandkids how to side-hill? Global Warming is such a bitch to us flatlanders who love the winter...

I would have to look at my Owners manual that I ordered from Polaris but I think my Indy-500 is a 1992 very little rear suspension. It has Fuel Injection. I read about how Polaris lost a law suit presented by Mountain Performance for the fuel Injection.
My Cousin had the first Liquid cooled Indy 340. I thought that was one Iconic .
I thought the guys at Arctic Cat came up with the Present Modern front suspension Geometry.
I always thought it was Ironic that one of the Brothers from Polaris started Arctic Cat. The two Brands are very competitive on the race courses.

Those are probably good choices. I would probably pick the 2000ish 800 XCR. Still a killer sled and still hard to beat.

Both my 03 Classic 500 and 98 Indy Touring running great and just waiting for snow here in the Northeast - bring it!!

400 fugi was underrated and bulletproof, XLT was huge in 1993, 800 XCR closed out the triple musclesled era, Axys chassis was a huge step from the IQ more than the Matryx from the Axys.

I would definitely have added the triple 800 XCR , and no dought the EDGE.

Best of my Polaris sleds back then...drum roll...1997 Indy 500! The thing was bullet proof. Best overall was 2003 XCR 800 triple-triple...Hit 112 mph on snow.

The fuji was a Japanese motor, subaru made that motor. Which is very interesting!

No mention of the 700 RMK? Flatlanders. That machine was as big a deal as the Rev chassis.

Too bad none of the snowmobile manufactures build affordable sleds anymore. Happy Birthday Polaris.
April 20 2025
I would have thrown the 95xlt special or rxl in there for the start of long travel suspension war with the xtra12

no Edge chassis mentioned ? i figured we would hear about the 97 700xc as well.

First brand new sled I ever bought 1990 Indy 500 thought I was the king of the world until my best friend bought the 650

Too bad Chaparral didnt bring their trailing arm to production from the race sleds, I bet they would still be in business or would have at least lasted through the 80s. BTW Chaperral had the trailing arm suspension in the early 70s something like 1972 or 1974. Also had the second production liquid cooled sled in 1974 ( first was Brutanza in 72 I think )on the SSX440 with an all aluminum tunnel and bulkhead but still leave sprung and tunnel mounted engine. Rubber track not cleats and a slide rail suspension that was far superior to anything polaris or even cat had at that time.
Polaris has come a long way for sure and credit to them for sticking it out. Happy 70th.

No 650 Indy that sled was iconic triple pipes still fast today lol!! I had a 95 Indy storm that was amazing sled. 130mph radar on ice with just some simple bolt on jetting and good clutching. I was 18 rode the the hell out of that sled. Also had 2 Indy 500’s great sleds. 95 XCR with aaen triple pipes was another great sled I had.
Ski doo started the big twin segment with the MXZ 680HO.
I’m pretty sure Polaris came out with the 700 liberty twin before the 600 but I could be wrong idk. First liberty twin I remember was the 97 700 liberty twin RMK.

How in the world can you not include the Indy 600 triple’s into this. The XCR, XC, Storm, RXL…those are the most epic sleds from Polaris. I remember pulling up to stops in the late 90’s and seeing 100+ XLT triples. Good video. I liked it. But the Indy 500 as opposed to the XLT????

I beg to differ on some of the "Best" machines you chose. The 1991RXL 650, 2000 800 XCR and the 2006 600 Fusion were some of the best performance machines ever!!!!

How can you not mention the 97-98 RMK 700? It revolutionized the mountain sled category and brought us to where we are today.

Dad had a 80 TXL. Had some tricks from the Polaris factory racing guys. It was a 440 killer. 76 SRX would give it fits though

XLT was a lock for this type of list. About iconic as it gets. Also, the liberty twin 700 debuted in 1997 in the RMK, and the XC 600/700 got it (as well as the tipped in trailing arms) in 1998. The 1996 XCR 600 was a triple.

My second sled I bought was a 2010 rush 600 got her for cheap with very low millage. I believe it was very innovative sled and the start of a new era for polaris.
April 20 2025
Nothing iconic of fusion/IQ chassis. I agree with the other commenter, nice infomercial.
April 20 2025
No mention of the XCR 800 triple, the pinnacle of Polaris triples and an absolute icon. Sorry this video is a fail for me.
April 20 2025
The IQ chassis was one of the best/worst things to happen to polaris. First off, it was designed to handle exactly the same as the ifs sleds. These sleds nearly put polaris out of business with the fusion (first iq). Then enter the iqr. I believe its the sled that saved them. Iqr DOMINATED the tracks. And it looks good too!

The 850 boost trail sleds regardless of make are the mullets of the sno mo biz business upfront leave the party in the back

Fuji Indy 500, Indy 650/RXL, XLT/XCR600, USA Made XC700, any Edge built Chassis.......this is the list.
April 20 2025
Strange not to talk about the Edge chassis, when it’s basically the last of the old breed and those things are still everywhere.
April 20 2025
There is zero snow in the tracks, these sleds were not ridden but look to be simply dropped off as chairs, nice work guys.

Polaris early 70s my friends used to race Polaris one was a four-cylinder colt. One was a TX 400 triple the triple had a gas tank in the back of the seat very heavy but fast
