O disco de freio é uma das principais peças do sistema de freio, pois junto com as pastilhas, são efetivamente as peças que fazem o carro parar.
Os discos são feitos de aço e são instalados dentro da pinça de freio juntamente com as pastilhas.
Existem dois tipos de discos, os sólidos e os ventilados.
Os discos de freio sólidos, como o nome sugere, são sólidos, maciços, sem nenhuma fenda ou abertura para ventilação.
Já os ventilados possuem uma abertura lateral responsável por permitir a passagem do ar e assim diminuir a alta temperatura causada pelo atrito com a pastilhas.
