Tell me what percentage of products globally DOESNT bullshit you about its contents..ie.,ingredients. As long as the oil does its job,thats all I care about. I use Old Masters ,and have been since 1978,and have had awesome results. You video titles with capital letters , "LIES" is a bit arrogant in my opinion.

  @armedmariner

Excellent video my friend. You pulled all the mystery off of this. I made a soda can and water bottle dispenser to go at the end of our island counter. I made it with small 1” roller wheels so you can move it around. The thing is made out of 5/4 hard maple. I made the top out of 6/4 and I’m finishing with pure dark tung oil from Milk Paint Company. Good product. Just a slow process. Key? My wife loves it and that’s why I’m doing this - for the Brownie Points I score with her!

I am experimenting with a whole mess of various finishes for different projects over the past months. Your videos are on top of the search results most of the time. They are very helpful.

Hi there. I have a question. How do you remove thick applied toung oil off wood finish, without damaging the wood finish?

April 19 2025

  @keithclark8030

Will Tung oil waterproof the wood? For example, if I make a home address# sign, or a small wood sign to set on the vanity in the bathroom. Would that be okay?

Loved your Tung Oil video to clear up it’s use. I have used it for years and never been disappointed in its results. Amazingly I learned additional info techniques from your video. I use the PURE Tung oil on my river bottom cypress with beautiful results. Keep the the good work.

“the deeper the penetration, the better the protection”. I am not sure about that. What is the point of oil in the middle of the wood if it is sealed at the edges? Seems wastefull

how to fix an sticky surface, i didnt wipe the excess after 1 hour and got some sticky parts, do i heat it up a bit and wipe the excess or just polish it.

What do you do when Tung oil leaves the leathery bubbly finish? Just sand it down and start over? Can heating make Tung oil polymerize better? Jack in Idaho

Can you put on after I put mineral oil a walnut bowl,looking for more of a sheen

April 19 2025

  @m444ss

PS - If you want to use tung oil to protect cutting boards or other wooden kitchenware, it can be thinned with a food-safe citrus solvent

April 19 2025

  @BloodySparrow

I use Tung oil on my kitchen utensils and cutting boards. It holds up to use much better than just mineral oil or bees wax. How many coats have I put on? I dunno. Yes. I apply a coat to all my wood utensils and cutting boards about once a week. Every week. For the last 5 years.

April 19 2025

  @ewk8675

Great info and video. Would carnuba wax be a suitable final coat finish for the pure tung oil? Thanks

my tung nuts hurt, after enduring this

April 19 2025

  @BarrySumpter

Thanks for the vid and info. My first attempt at tung Oil yesterday. Up to 100°f / 40°c max for 16 hours. Excruciating wait. Cloth was dry and only two small spots on the board wet. Apply another layer forgotten the sanding. And now to wait even longer. Bummer. 15 to 35 days. Back to food grade mineral oil. Man that was expensive. Gutted.

Is it a good idea to use tung oil on an ax handle rather than boiled linseed oil?

April 19 2025

  @danasmith8950

What’s missing from this video is recommendations on what projects to use tung oil on and, more importantly, which things not to use tung oil on.

April 19 2025

  @Franklin-zc2jo

My pure bottle said 24 hours between coats and that was terrible. I wish I waited a week at least between coats. 5 months after doing 3 coats over 4 days and my drawers still smell so strong I cant keep them in my bedroom, or put clothes in them.

In Hawaii we have Kukui trees which is a Tung nut tree from China. Polynesians brought Kukui nuts to Hawaii for the oils to make candles and also cook the nuts for consumption

Is it a good idea to add to the first coat after an hour?

April 19 2025

  @allisea7768

Any recommendations for best lint-free rags? Tried different brands in Amazon and they all have lint.

April 19 2025

  @silvermediastudio

Safety Note: A folded/crumped rag infused with Tung Oil can spontaneously combust. Tung Oil absorbs oxygen from the air as it dries, and in turn produces heat. To prevent this, lay your rags out flat or hang/drape them to let them dry. They can also be cleaned with regular soap & water first.

What would you recommend that’s safe to stain wood where one grows food in

April 19 2025

  @DB-drdan

Very informative. I have been using various finishes for over 40 years. Tung oil requires a lot of drying time, as you have said. I prefer shellac. It is also a natural finish, it dries quickly, and it can be reapplied in case of scratches. I suggest that you do a video on shellac. Thanks for your many helpful instructional videos.

April 19 2025

  @bent1208

The use of tung oil is best used for wood products you’re going to use often like tables or countertops. You’re already using and wiping down. Sanding is easily done with a steel wool pads, you can easily apply light coats once a month at night before going to bed. Easy to do and easy to maintain. Plus you don’t have to worry about water damage or getting the finish perfect as the oil penetrates into the surface and doesn’t sit on the top like other finishes.

April 19 2025

  @jackrichards1863

Great yarn. I knew NONE of the facts of real tung oil. Reckon i must get Danish oil now?

April 19 2025

  @PaulBellon-bg1yv

Will pure tung oil cure quicker in a warmer environment with minimal humidity the same way linseed oil does? I have been using linseed oil on gun stocks since 1977 in my shop which are 95% walnut. It’s a very slow process if you’re looking to get 15 to 20 coats on a stock set. Now I have never used tung oil, in your opinion do they polymerize at about the same rate? I have built a curing cabinet out of an old school locker, it’s insulated with fireproof insulation inside. I installed two heat lamps inside one at the top and one at the bottom, these are wired to a dimmer switch to control temperature. My optimum temperature is around 105 degrees with 9% humidity. The linseed oil cures in 12 to 16 hours and not 3 days and sometimes more. I would like to try tung oil because it tends to have a reddish hue after time. That’s what I’m looking for especially for older military gun stocks. Now I do use alkanet root to tint my linseed oil to achieve that reddish hue I’m looking for. Can tung oil be tinted with alkanet root as well? I would appreciate you opinion as you know woodworking and finishing of different types.

April 19 2025

  @warblegarble

Hey! Not sure if you will reply, but I’m in a pickle! We used multiple coats of Real Milk Paint Half and Half and it’s been about 20 days now. I just tried putting some water on the block, it beaded, I wiped it off, but NOW the surface feels fuzzy. I get why it would do that in the early days, but this is unsettling. What am I missing?? Does it need even more coats?? If I get any water on this wood, will it perpetually feel fuzzy? Help!

April 19 2025

  @chipmanning158

I extended a desk with a pine board and used Watco tongue oil (a Rustoleum) product. I put three coats on and let it dry for over 7 days. While it looks good the finish is tacky. What do you recommend to fix this issue? Many Thanks--Chip

Thanks for sharing! After you are done with this oil completely, are you supposed to seal it with things like polyurethane?

Great Information...THANKS.--->...!

April 19 2025

  @davidmarsh7699

So why apply it over liberally with a paint brush then wipe it off with (hopefully) a lint free cloth. Why not just put enough onto a lint free cloth and apply it that way?

April 19 2025

  @ChronicSurfer

I know you mentioned different mixes, but in your opinion what is the best 50 50 mix? Thank you for the great video, subscribed!

So its taken from the nuts not the tung. I didnt know that.

April 19 2025

Tung Oil is a great finish. I have found that after a few weeks, applying beeswax make a wonderful surface over the Tung Oil.
