My absolute favorite so far is made with Elijah Craig vanilla with the orange zest and a Cherry

I make my old fashioned at home with a little bit of organic maple syrup, bitters, orange peel, black cherry, one large square ice cube and 4 roses bourbon.

Why is it the annoying bartending youtubers call themselves mixologists, the better ones have no issue saying bartender.

Cloudy ice does not come from impurities. It comes from air bubbles trapped in the water as the ice freezes. Plenty of videos on YouTube showing how to make clear ice in a cooler or insulated vessel. Just search for "Clear ice" on YouTube.

Fancy hand work. I thought that I was looking for recipes for this cocktail.

Simple syrup. OMW. Use brown sugar sir, or muscovado. Melt in the angostura. Absolutely make it smooth with the water from the melted ice. If you only have cheap ice, stir in whiskey and ice in stages, wait for the outside of the glass to get cold between adds.

In the spirit of the comments:
The best old fashioned is very simple. Any decent bourbon (Michters, Buffalo Trace, Knob Creek are ky preference). 3-4 dashes of walnut bitters. Muddled Demerara sugar. 2 Luxardo cherries as a garnish, no juice.

Okay…I’m ready for the hate replies but I prefer simple syrup period. I personally feel it mixes better. I’ve used the sugar cube and all I had was a sugar sledge at the bottom of my glass. Also infused simple syrup is awesome. Orange infused simple syrup eliminates orange bitterness and all the other stuff… finally who drinks Jim Beam besides high school kids, college kids, and homeless people… my sympathies go out to the last group of people. Okay I’m ready for the hate replies… go

fire your editor. this isn’t a marvel fight scene, why is there a cut every 2 seconds.
April 22 2025
I make mine with 1 oz pure dark maple syrup, 3 oz Woodford Reserve double oak, 1 Woodford Reserve bourbon cherry and 3 dashes bitters. Stir lightly, no ice.
April 22 2025
Love the recipes and the flair, it isn´t overdone, just cool and stylish.
April 22 2025
Take it up a notch with a "smoked" glass. Ignite a chip of oak, place the sipping glass over it while you compete building your cocktail. Pour your cocktail into the smoked glass glass for an amazing cocktail at home experience. Welcome!
April 22 2025
It may be sacrilegious, but I sometimes use mezcal instead of bourbon....or (real) maple syrup instead of sugar.
April 22 2025
ive been adding some smoke to mine lately, definitely makes it unique depending on which wood chips I use and how much smoke I add, plus those italian marischino cherries are a must
April 22 2025
As a new old fashioned enthusiast, what makes it for me are the amazing Luxardo cherries, I ask for extra cherries in mine, bummer not seeing any in these, but they look good!
April 22 2025
Wow i guess you dont work in a busy place. I could have made 5 old fashioned by that time.
April 22 2025
With a nice dash of walnut liqueur and dark cherry over a four Roses….and add another log to the fire…only 1 ….for its usually pear shaped turns -first tracks on morning fresh powder….

Awesome video, I’ve never looked into the ice stamp, but it’s genius.
Also, I just want to complain about something in my work life; maybe someone here will get just as heated as I did. I recently transferred from a bar in texas to one in new hampshire (it’s a chain), and the only thing I needed “Training” on was just the flow / bar set up at this location. So anyways, bartender is “training” me and the first drink I see her make for a customer is an old fashioned…and she shook it. SHE SHOOK THE OLD FASHIONED!!!! Maybe I was spoiled in my training and having a classically trained bartender husband, but she would have been fired on the spot if any of my past coworkers or bar owners saw it.

Brand new to the channel great content just started drinking Jameson love the recipes and content keep up the great work
April 22 2025
Stop throwing my alcohol around and give it to me before I start shaking!!!

Last weekend I drank my first old fashioned ever. It was in the Bar the Tailor in Amsterdam. It was made with marpel syrup and I was recommended a nice cigar that would complement it nicely. I enjoyed it so much. It´s my favorite drink now
April 22 2025
The best old fashioned thank me later is made with woodford reserve double oaked, that Smokey chocolate flavour from the bourbon mixed with orange and aromatic bitters (2 dashes each) plus a fire burned orange peel makes the perfect orange dark chocolate old fashioned.
April 22 2025
Bulliet, angostura bitters, light (not dark amber) maple syrup, ice and a dash of cointreau. Oh and a cherry for garnish along with orange peel. The crushing of ice at the start is a good idea to get some water in at the beginning.
Said Contreau meant Grand Marnier.

If you didn’t spin your tools and ingredients, it’s inferior right off the bat
April 22 2025
Fantastic video , does it make much difference ( at home) between the simple sugar & an sugar cube ? Which is better for home ? Also does it matter on the volume of bourbon ? i like to put alot of bourbon in ( maybe 100ml or more ) , should i up the sugar & bitters ?
April 22 2025
Question: If you wash the orange and lemon with soap or veggie wash, do you lose the oils?
April 22 2025
In other words: Use better bourbon. Literally no good information in this video. The recipe was identical, it’s just this dumbass throwing stuff around rather than actually teaching.
April 22 2025
I guess I am a semi pro. I use the mixing glass, but I use regular freezer ice. I also choose to use my own homemade simple syrup. A one and 1/2 to one Demerara sugar syrup. And the rest is the same.
April 22 2025
Big on flair little on science. The reason ice is cloudy is not water impurities. Its because when it froze the oxygen was trying escape and turned the ice white.
April 22 2025
I love the Old Fashioned so much. Finding a Mixologist to make a great one has always been a problem. Thanks for the tips. Subscribed due to this Video, Thank you
April 22 2025
I prefer my OF a bit more bourbon forward. I always use 2.5 oz bourbon, and at least 100 proof. I also like to use a couple dashes each of Angostura, Angostura orange, and Fee Bros cherry bitters.
April 22 2025
I like:
-brown sugar cube
-two drops of water
-angostine bitters, 3 dashes
-muddle
-ice, not fussy about transparency or shape, but I prefer a large, clear, cube
-Buffalo Trace bourbon, 2oz
-orange peel only, lightly squeezed and then torched skin before I put it in
Absolute heaven.
April 22 2025
Those are aromatic bitters.... like the label says. Angostura is a brand, not a style of bitters.
WAIT. No. Old Fashioneds are made with Rye Whiskey... not Bourbon. Especially not that garbage disposal reject bourbon... Jim Beam.
April 22 2025
One mistake on the third one: you should absolutely drain the water after stamping your ice cube.
April 22 2025
If you’re a bourbon enthusiast and want a good Old Fashioned please spend more than $15-$25 dollars on the bourbon, Jim Beam white label, Bulliet Whiskey, and Buffalo Trace are cheap well whiskey, IMO. You don’t have to break the bank, but at least use something like Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Rebel Distiller’s Collection, Knob Creek 9yr, or something similar. 110 proof or higher to get the more complex flavors and finish. I’m sure this guy’s methods are fine, but I couldn’t take it very seriously just based on the bourbon choices.
April 22 2025
Agree… when I get little ice cubes at a restaurant, it really affects the quality of the Old Fashioned. I’m now getting to the point of ‘telling’ the bartender what I want. Not what’s on the menu.
April 22 2025
I have a few i make at home.
1. Buffalo trace bourbon, rinse the glass with absinthe. 4 dashes angostura, 2 dash peychauds, simple syrup, smoke with lavender.
2. Japanese a5 wagyu washed buffalo trace, 3 dash angostura, 2 dash lemon bitters, simple syrup.
3. Browned butter washed makers mark, 3 dashes angostura, 2 dash vanilla, simple syrup.
Of course orange peel expressed on all. Marachino cherries sometimes
