- I have a third party grip, which I have to say Im very pleased with. I’ve taken over 400 images, at about -4°c without losing more than a bar, which speaks more about the batteries than the grip. But they are useful for just having that extra battery because the less you have to fiddle around in the cold the better. I use a sidekicker gimbal head and spinning your camera round in its colour and you are straight on to your buttons is great for the speed you need to work with wildlife.

the AA battery tray saved the day when I was at an air show shooting last year because I forgot to charge both of the batteries for my t4i and they died half way through the show but fortunately I brought along the AA tray loaded with charged AA batteries and they got me through the rest of the show. Now I always carry it in my bag for emergencies.

I bought a battery grip for my 6D and I think I have only used it like twice. Feels so much heavier and makes it very uncomfortable to hold. I think it is useful if you are doing portraits and shooting vertically. I just carry a few extra batteries for my 7D M2 when I go wildlife shooting. And believe me the lighter the better.

I have battery grips for my cameras. I find that the extra battery drives lenses better and you can shoot all day long.

I had my after market grip on my 5D mk3 fail in a wedding - Now I always use the Canon one!

I like the idea of the grip...have one for my 5D but good Lord it makes the camera weigh a ton!
