Instead of going to art school to learn how to draw and paint, better study philosophy and use it to forge the mindset that will allow you to be the artist you want to become.

I’m an art teacher. I tell the kids to use what ever they are most comfortable with. But that might be cause I use like 8 different pencils, 5 different pens, and 3 different marker brands…

Mechanical Pencils are the only type of pencil I use, they were convenient so the fact that some teachers are like “No bro, use a different one” I’m like “Nah man, learn how to use every material when it comes to art”

I do prefer paper mate mechanical pencil. cause I do like the colors, and that’s how they were created I love them so much

Art teachers are artists not posers. They share what will work best for beginners. Students tend to hear in absolutes in the beginning. Im not a teacher but ive never had a teacher who discouraged me from using various materials. I like graphite pencils as well and prefer the 2mm.

My Art teacher is a goat because she allow us to use mechanical pencils heck even recommend it more than conventional pencils

I’m so jealous you can get Pentel Graph gear 500 in stores, while I have to buy them on Amazon that is more expensive compared to to store prices. Also i don’t have to wait days for the shipment.
April 29 2025
Can I ask what store did you get those mechanical pencils so I don’t have to go to Amazon to get them

I am a Drawing major and most of my professors have encouraged us to use whatever we love to draw with, specially mechanical pencils.

Use crayons if you want. Art teachers are most failed human beings with little talent and even smaller aspirations.

My art tr also said not to use them but I prefer mecanic pncls over wood pncl
April 29 2025
You know, I prefer mechanical pencils to be heavier than normal wooden pencils. And the reason is, it gives a perfect feeling of having it in hands.

I have all the Graph gears they don’t have different shades of Graphite in it you put whatever graphite in it then you set the dial so you don’t forget what you have in it because it’s kind of hard to tell B2 B3 between H toH3 you can’t tell them apart just by looking at them so to remember you set the dial whos the poser now ?

My art teacher said no "push thingy pencils" I drew with a NicPro Graphite 2.0 pencil. She said it was okay:)

I can see why they say that, a regular pencil can be a lot more expressive than a mechanical one when drawing with different levels of sharpness, angle, etc., that you can’t get with a mechanical pencil.
That being said, if the tool you use does the job you want then that’s all that matters. Recently became a huge clutch pencil fan - best of both worlds!

I SAW THIS AT TARGET FOR $10 AND I THOUGHT IT WAS A SCAM I REGRET NOT GETTING IT SO MUCH

What store is shown in the beginning that you bought from. That collection of stationary looks amazing to me. I’d wanna just go there just to look at it all.

Hey I want to buy the 500 is it good? I want it to be a bit dark and also I can’t find the 1000 anywhere and even on Amazon it comes broken so…

machined my own barrel for a p200 mechanism and my goodness its amazing and everything ive ever wanted in a metal body pencil
April 29 2025
I believe you shouldnt twist the pencil for the lead indicator like that. On that specific pencil, the plastic is a weak point and will crack.

You made me look it up, but the lead bezel only shows what you’re using at the time. I mean, you could put 2H-6B in it, but it’s not selectable or anything. You get a couple pencils and roll the bezel to the appropriate one. Here’s my 2H, here’s my 2B…
