A great mod platform to be sure. For my dollars, I like the look of a jazz bass much better and would probably start there. Opinions...

Really no reason for noisy electronics in 2021, cavity paint is cheap. I would rather have a sub...

It’s sounds light and like your said, there’s not a lot of depth to the tone.

Sounds okay no more .cool kick start for beginners

That jaguar is cool but not really my thing (for now). Any plans to review the new affinity Jazz? They have some cool custom colors coming out (burgundy mist) but am also wondering how they fit into the Squire lineup quality wise. Hope they have some upgrades from the previous line other than just colors.

I was super excited for these but wasn’t actually planning on getting one just yet until I went into my local Guitar Center and I sh*t you not when I say this is the best budget money I’ve spent on a bass. Saying the fretwork is excellent is an understatement. I have so many great things to say about this instrument which I can assure is going to be wordy so I’m just gonna stop right here. Cons: nut, electronics (it IS a mod platform after all) Pros: everything else.

Lobster, once you modify it, will you do a head to head with the G&L Fallout? Great content as always and I love the videos that show the steps you do to mod, that is what got me into tinkering too!

Seems like with just a few mods this $249 bass could be a medium-scale, lightweight gig-worthy beast!

Mod away oh-yee Lobsterius Subsonicus! You did mention a pickguard swap which would def the look; assuming you will get to that in the mod vid?

Hey Lobster. Just wanted to say i really like your channel. Great presentation and play. And you have always interesting items. Keep up the good work. Sincerly Phil from Germany

I think I might need to stop watching your videos but don’t take it personally. I got too many basses as it is and you’re giving me all kinds of excuses to buy more… Ha Ha Ha. At least even with a nice mod, this one is incredibly affordable. But, I just noticed your Serek t-shirt and am about to watch the vid about Midwestern Gibson comparison. I might be in trouble…

Had this exact bass for two weeks now and its not noisy at all. Bought it to mod it. Got a tortoise shell scratch plate, hip shot kickass bridge, lightweight tuners. Only thing I can’t decide on is a pickup. Any ideas would be welcome????

I have been putting off watching reviews of this bass until I could watch the lobster work his magic first. Worth the wait.

I just bought one in the Charcoal Frost color.I like the Indian Laurel fretboard. The fret work is nice,no fret sprout. The neck dive is a little annoying, but I can deal with that.I think a hi mass bridge would work well.I’m thinking of going with an EMG pickup with a BTC control, but I’ll wait to see your mods and go from there, nice review

I love the Fender headstock. In this case though I think it would be cooler to do a Jag as a 34" headless in H and HH configuration. Better balance, more definition, and more options. Great video as always Lobster!

Thanks, you have now caused me to doubt my next purchase! After getting a Squier CV Mustang, and enjoying how light and comfortable it is vs my P Bass, I was planning on getting a PJ Mustang. I really want a SS Stingray, but those are near impossible to get where I live. And now that you have reviewed this, I am wondering if I should get this Jaguar H and replace the pickup, along with a few other upgrades, and get that tone from the humbucker that I am currently missing in my collection.

Perhaps a second pickup? Course then you would need the metal plates that are on some jags for unique wiring..... MM/MM, MM/J, MM/P, MM/soap....

It kind of sounds like a L-1000 already so I am curious to see the mod. This would be great with a quad coil pickup so you can select front or back coils.

A nice sounding bass, but that hum is a shame. They should have blasted that cavity with $0.05 of shielding paint and charged the consumer another $5! Maybe a good upgrade platform?

Great review as always. I just got the exact bass this week. You nailed the high points well. Keep up the good reviews. Inexpensive basses seem to keep getting better and better.

You can probably stick 2 other MM style hums above and below the pickup. That would be crazy or interesting, probably both. So many tonal options and wiring madness.

That’s a really nice bass. Surprising! I really wish Fender (or Squire) would come out with a Meteora bass though.

Hey lobster question for you! I just got this bass and wanted to replace the strings. Can I get away with putting long scales on or should I order mediums?

April 25 2025

I would put another HB in the bridge position for fun and a high mass bridge.

Dang- I wish they mad this lefty. I could turn a righty around like I have done in the past but those knobs hit my arm and get moved. Plus even more neck dive. Medium scale lefty basses are extremely rare - especially affordable ones.

Since the cavity is not shielded in any way what is the best way to get it sheilded? Can you line it with tin foil to shield it? Would that work at reducing the noise?

April 25 2025

  BassedinVegasDavyo

Hi Lobster,,,after returning several Jaguar H bass’s due to neck dive I decided to get another one and mod the bridge and tuners to help the neck dive. I do BEAD on all my bass’s, what strings can be used on the Jaguar H, long scale strings or short scale strings ? Medium scale strings are extremely hard to find as 5 string sets (obviously the G string goes in the garbage can when I buy my 5 string sets) Thanks in advance for any string scale length info you could offer. Cheers, Davyo

Thanks for your review! So it seems the only downside is the pickup… apart from replacing the pickup, do you think you could make up for the lack of highs with a brighter set of strings? Like a DR High Beams or d’Addario XL?

Just bought a loaded body of one of these and put an Ibanez Talman neck on it. It kinda works for my grunge covers band

One question, is the output of the ceramic Humbucker pickup louder than the pickup of a Precision ? It also seems to be light weight and quite versatile

April 25 2025

5
  user-jm5xf8gs8z

I bought one. Switched out the bridge with a badass. Swapped the plastic knobs with chrome. Keep the spicy stock pick up, I like the tone. I like this bass.
