Die Mustang hatte keine Chance gegen FW190 Langnase und erst recht gegen Me262. Die Amis haben den grössten Technikdiebstahl in der Menschheitsgeschichte begangen und Deutschland ausgebeutet.

My grandpa was a P-51 pilot and a Corsair Pilot. He loved his P-51 over the Corsair. He said the P-51 could outturn and out maneuver the Corsair. Yet they claim the kill ratio of the Corsair was greater. Why? Because by the time the Corsair came out, there was literally very few experienced Japanese fighter pilots. They just thru pilots in with zero to little experience hoping sheer numbers like mosquitoes would make the difference. That said, everyone who does air races always choose the Mustang. And celebrities like Tom Cruise has a Mustang. We have a Mustang. But only museums have corsairs. This comment is offered because many ask which fighter was better, the Mustang or Corsair? Hands down, the Mustang. Fly both. You’ll agree.

An excellent and captivating documentary. The hero pilot interviews were inspiring and reverent of them as young heroic men thrust into the arena of air warfare at such a young age. Liked the crew chief telling the pilot ‘he’d seen worse’, which gave him his confidence back. I wondered what the Germans first thought when the P-51s didn’t turn around on escort duty but continued all the way to and back from the target with the bombers. I also recall that the Tuscaloosa Airmen which came up from Italy to escort bombers never lost any bomber in a group they escorted during the war. S great documentary!

Mustang was a great plane, but try fighting a P-47 @ 30,000 ft or higher. There is a big REASON that 7 of the top 10 American Aces in the E.T.O. flew P-47s In the book Air Command, Hub Zemke, who was familiar with P-38s, P-51s & P-47s, said the Thunderbolt was superior to the rest above 25,000. Far more Mustangs were downed in Strafing runs & Thunderbolts were nowhere as delicate.

The Merlin Mustang was a great aircraft and did well against the fading remnants of Axis airpower in the last years of the War. Was it key to winning the war? Not even close. The War started in 1939. The Merlin Mustang didnt really hit operational service until 1944. Nuff said.

I will be so glad when they quit telling the lie over and over that the P-51 was the first long-range American fighter. The P-47 was carrying a 220 gallon drop tank in the Pacific with the 5th AF in 1943. Flying Long Range Missions equivalent to Regensberg and back. The Bomber Mafia were getting their crews killed because they didn’t want a long-range fighter. Everybody knows the bomber always gets through.

Well the spit was faster could climb faster spit could carry 1000 ib of bombs mustang 500ib and of course the English Merlin engine powered the mustang so all in all the spitfire was a superior aeroplane and it had better weapons as well so this video is wrong in a lot of facts and truth but the yanks will never admit they were 2nd best in anything

I strongly believe the Bert Stiles the P-51 pilot 33 minutes 49 seconds into this video identifies as his wingman is the former B-17 co pilot Bert Stiles who wrote the bestselling wartime air combat biography,"Serenade to the Big Bird",& who would later transition to flying P-51 fighters culminating in his death when he was shot down over Hanover in November 1944

A great plane built to British specifications by an American company with vision, however although good it wasn’t good enough to go up against the best of the Luftwaffe until the Brits removed the original American engine and replaced it with the Rolls Royce Merlin, a marriage made in heaven. Rolls Royce allowed Packard to build the Merlin engine in the States. The Government cancelled existing orders for fighters and bought P45s

Uncle Sam sent many of his sons to war with absolute minimums of training. Some fighter pilots entered combat in 1942 with less than one hour in their assigned aircraft. The 357th Fighter Group (often known as The Yoxford Boys) went to England in late 1943 having trained on P-39s. The group never saw a Mustang until shortly before its first combat mission. A high-time P-51 pilot had 30 hours in type. Many had fewer than five hours. Some had one hour.

Being a liquid cooled engine, the Mustang was prone to crippling ground fire. Whereas, the P47, being an air cooled engine, could sustain greater damage from ground fire.

Tuskegee Airmen

April 29 2025

5
  deankay4434

As said below, the P-51 Mustang with the Rolls Royce engine made the difference as it had a gear driven two-stage supercharger to improve volumetric efficiency at higher altitudes. This forces more air into the engine and was simply genius. Allison quickly adopted their design to add a two-stage supercharger but the war in England was over, yet the Pacific theater still needed help. It required the fighters to fit on aircraft carrier groups already in the Pacific. I say; “God bless every pilot in P-51’s, including the Tuskegee pilots and all the young men in bombers. Many B27’s built in South Omaha, NE at the Martin Bomber factory. I told my oldest grandson this story before he joined the local police after his time in the Marines was up. God bless all who did what’s needed (Bombs, Bullets, Band aides) in WW-II. It makes me proud to be born in America.
