""De fato, pouco mais de um ano depois desse vaticínio, a monarquia desabou e a Princesa Isabel foi obrigada a se exilar -expulsa do seu país.
Mas por qual pecado, qual crime? Teria conspirado para a morte do rei para assumir o trono? Teria sido uma governante tirânica? Teria feito passar alguma lei que atentasse contra a liberdade e a segurança do seu povo? Todas essas questões devem ter surgido quando a notícia da queda da monarquia e do exílio chegou aos rincões mais distantes.
É possível imaginar o espanto e a total incompreensão das pessoas ao redor do mundo quando descobriam que o crime ou o pecado da princesa era ter assinado uma lei que acabava com a escravidão no Brasil.
Que acabava com uma instituição nefasta, que já se prolongava por mais de trezentos anos e que muitos homens antes dela, muito mais poderosos do que ela, nãotiveram a ousadia e a coragem de enfrentar.
A Lei Áurea não libertou, no dia 13 de maio de 1888, apenas homens, mulheres e crianças de seus cativeiros, onde eram brutalmente explorados, mas libertou também todo um povo, toda uma nação que convivia lado a lado com a barbárie, com a iniquidade, com a desesperança, com a injustiça promovidas por aqueles que aparelharam o Estado e ignoraram os verdadeiros desejos e anseios do povo, que era viver numa nação livre e próspera.

Filmed by Louie le Prince who went missing very mysteriously. Literally was on his way to New York or Paris (can’t remember) to unveil his invention to a mass crowd. (Back before patents on inventions were so strict, you could be the first to show a large crowd your invention to ensure people knew you were the creator)
