I just watched the uncensored first season.... The big problem is that the story of the anime is so clunky. It is like "Lost" (Too many flashbacks) meets "Aliens 2". The flashbacks slow down the rhythm. Like "Lost", there are too many unanswered questions and not in a nice way:
- How the hell those cockroaches were on the ship way before reaching the higher atmosphere of Mars ?
- How cockroaches evolved so unnaturally so fast (with human features like 4 muscled limbs, 2 eyes and white teeth) ?
- What happened exactly on the first 2 missions ?
Honestly, the first season sucks as well !

Season 1 uncensored was really good, Season 2 was okay. It continued character depth in short quick informative spans, had great fights but the pacing was slightly imbalanced. I think ppl are being way too harsh as it developed & introduced the Cold War dynamic on earth well, art of war is summarized nicely as the roaches constantly adapt & the plot twist we’re just as good as season 1. It just lacked gore, more meaningful deaths & animation drop offs. I guess I went in expecting a 5/10 anime & left seeing a 7.5/10 w still tons of potential & recovery. Though it’s been years & on hiatus. Also being a black man I felt no ways about this depiction of the terra formars, it in no way correlates w us as Wolf (an actual human character of black skin color) has hints of Afro centric features while keeping the anime style. I think it was meant to make the roaches have similarities to early human evolution cycle. (Intentional not tone deaf)

I just discovered this Anime today and finished season 1 then tried seaosn 2. All I can say is they butchered it. I find it more interesting than AOT. However, it made me feel like Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul: Re. I hope there will be a season 3 with Season 1 graphics or more improved.

I just finished season 1, once I started the new season Immediately I noticed the different style and it was coming off more comedic. And the terraformers honestly didn’t look as horrifying and uneasy like they did in the first season. I don’t even wanna watch episode 2 now :,)

Every hit in season 1 felt EXPLOSIVE
Like someone or thing was gonna die from the hit. Really felt the strength everyone had
Then season 2 comes along and those same explosive attacks
Were more like a sparring session with your buddy

My biggest question remained. Where did the violence and gore go.
Why is it a damned shounen now.
Characters now getting beat up just like shounen tend to do. These bugs for gods sake. They oneshot people in the first season.
Now there is no true reason to fear them anymore. Their attacks dont got no punch.
Oh dont get me started on how all the typical anime cliches got introduced this season.
Christ i hate season 2 and wish the studio to fail just for that petty reason.
Whatever the hell they were smoking when making these awful decisions i want it aswell.
Even now years later i still feel the same anger hate and disappointment i did on the day i saw s2 ep1
(Shounen is a whole other subject for me tho, its plastered with lazy writing and i loathe that genre the most for that. 90% of shounen i watched always disappointed me in that department. Now i avoid em like the plague

Just to clarify: I personally didn’t see any potential implications of connection to race at all until I saw the weirdly large discourse some people made of it. My main point in mentioning it was more so to quell any of those potential viewers thoughts that it was connected to race when at best it could be seen as a few design choices Japanese audiences would not construe with racial shit at all. Hope I didn’t come off as weird in that short segment, but if I did, that wasn’t what I intended
