I remember Tom Berengers very first movie. It was about a sentinel. When one dies another must take his or her place. The choice is made through a rental apt. A beautiful apt with a view overlooking the East River and Lady Liberty. Anywho all the other apts are occupied with ghouls and perverted demons who become visible to the new tenant. They impose ,intimidate, deceive, and try to manipulate the new tenant into leaving voluntarily. She doesnt and ultimately she becomes the sentinel. This movie reminds me of that movie.

Having been raised Roman Catholic, the ending surprised me. I agree with the statement made about not changing the way God made him and feel that it should not be a bar to serving Him in His Church. This condition is very uncommon but it does exist and people with it are not an abomination of any sort. Great movie. Jesus never called those who were prepared to serve, he prepared those He called to serve.

Enjoyed the film but the Nigerian cardinal tied to sexual sin, the Borgia lite Italian and the purist progressive character were a little bit too predictable. Fiennes and Rosselini characters were superb, torn between devotion and pragmatism.

The Curia reminds me of the jewish sanhedrin, they are no different than the politicians. Manipulation, lying, shady coverups and false piety. This started out as a very solid mystery drama and then ending was so off that it was if the producer changed script writers just for the last scene of the movie. It did not "subvert expectations" which is the current excuse for so many poorly written movies and TV series, it was just a ham handed, absurd and childish attempt at a "message" that was completely incongruent with the rest of movie.
I honestly thought that this was a movie I would rewatch but the ending....well it condemned this to the pile of one and done movie history footnotes. Really sad as the rest of the movies was excellent.
They Jumped the Shark and the movie lost its value.

1. Most of the comments here do not understand what the election of a Pope entails. Including Catholics.
2. The book, beautifully adapted, is another Robert Harris page turner: thriller, mystery. Read it.
3. This film reveals the politics and machinations of those elevated to the rank just below the Pope. The cardinals are of all colors and nationalities, traditionalists and progressives. Cardinal Lawrence has to unify the disparate factions, a duty he reluctantly takes on.
4. What is revealed to Lawrence shakes him to the core. Fiennes extraordinary performance shines here in particular.
5. When the new cardinal is interviewed, he tells Lawrence, “I did not go to Switzerland. This is how God made me.” And that is what the film is all about. This cardinal is unanimously elected. He has reminded all the factions that the Pope is Christ’s representative on earth. Who among them lives a more Christian life than he?

For my taste, Anora was a pretty good film that meandered too much and suffered from poor editing with a boffo ending. By Contrast, Conclave was a beautiful film with great acting, scene editing, sets and photography, with a ridiculous, juvenile, and disappointing ending.

This movie is a piece of art! Great work by the producer and actors and it accurately depicts the Catholic faith and the Conclave… if you’ve never looked into Catholic teachings and have no idea what art is. The poor story line is adapted from the book with a just as horrendous, if not worse, idea of what can happen in the summit of Cardinals. For the fellow Catholics on here giving it 5 stars, we need to pick up our Catechism again, don’t we? This movie is sacrilegious and depicts the Catholic Church incorrectly and as an incoherent institution that fails to relay God’s graces to the world. Hollywood loves to pervert the true, good, and beautiful, doesn’t it?

The Ending is not Woke its Matthew 19:12 , from the bible and Jesus teaching what God accepts.
The character is intersex in current medical explanation. Looked like boy at birth, likely assumed to be a boy maybe with undescended testes. In the past 2000 years ago would be assumed to be born that way of the mothers womb and a Eunich. Chistianity is told,instructed to accept it.
