Informações do Produto: :In this video Doctor O'Donovan explains key facts you need to know about a medication called LEVOTHYROXINE (also known as Synthroid®, Levoxyl®, Unithyroid®, Tirosint® in the United States and Euthyrox® and Eltroxin in Europe) and how it is used to treat symptoms of HYPOTHYROIDISM (an under-active thyroid). In the video we cover: 00:00 - Intro 00:46 - What is Levothyroxine? 01:11 - Who can and can't take it? 01:54 - How and when to take it 03:01 - What to do if you miss a dose 03:40 - Side effects of levothyroxine 04:55 - Pregnancy and breastfeeding 05:23 - Interactions of levothyroxine with other medications Key facts from the NHS website: *Levothyroxine is a synthetic version of a hormone called thyroxine. It replaces thyroxine if your thyroid gland cannot produce it and prevents the symptoms of hypothyroidism. *Levothyroxine starts working straight away, but it may be several weeks before your symptoms start to improve. *The most common side effects of levothyroxine are caused by taking a bigger dose than you need. Your doctor can lower your dose to help reduce any side effects. *Before you start taking levothyroxine, your doctor will do a blood test. *Once you start taking the medicine you'll have regular blood tests to see how well it's working. *Levothyroxine doses need to be carefully monitored during pregnancy. If you're planning to become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, it's important to talk to your doctor to get the right care for you and your baby. Hi, is these any difference between taking T4 (levothyroxine)and Euthyrox ? I have that some people feel better on Euthyrox, even though they should be the same. I myself switched on Euthyrox 2 days ago.. Should i return to original T4 or just try it out for a while? Is it safe/worth it?

Thank you for the video, I really helped to understand the side effects better than the leaflet. I am taking half a pill daily . Before taking it , I’ll experience some hot flashes . I did a brain surgery in November 2022 . I had a pituitary tumor
I must say I don’t have serious side effects. It’s just cramps on my left hand and feet but taking medication for it. I take one Prednisone once a day

It gets confusing when doctors say to avoid taking with an "antacid". Sometimes it means calcium antacids such as tums. Othertimes it means medications such as prilosec or pepcid. It would be nice if doctors remembered to clarify that when mentioning interactions.

I am hearing lately that studies have shown that levothyroxine works better if taken at night. Any real wisdom in that?

Is there any chance that the problem is an iodine deficiency, which a supplement could fix?
May 01 2025
For me personally... I cannot take synthroid.. I can only take levothyroxin.. Why?? I have no idea..i keep being told they are the same thing, but my body would disagree

I was born with hypothyroidism, I am now 57 yo. I have been lucky, in the sense that I have never suffered any side effects that you have described to the best of my knowledge.

I had a lump under my chin and on ultrasound the doctor referred me for two issues, a growth under the chin and a growth on the thyroid. I underwent core needle biopsies on both, and they were inconclusive, the ENT consultant decided to remove the thyroid as a precaution against thyroid cancer. I also had an MRI scan for the chin lump. On the day for surgery I ended up with two surgeries, a hemithyroidectomy and a chin lump removal. The thyroid was found to be benign but the chin lump lymphoma (blood cancer). As a result of the thyroid surgery I now take 25mg levothyroxine daily, as soon as I get up in the morning, (this is usually more than 30 minutes prior to breakfast). For the lymphoma I received rituximab monotherapy and am now in remission.

I used to take levothyroxine. I always took it right after breakfast and titrated the dosage with this in mind. It made no difference in the long run.

I have stage 3 Hashimotos. My dose of eltroxin is 175 mcg right now. i used to start on sydtroid but the nodule in my neck got rapidly big, it triggered it. i could barely swallow. I found out after researching a lot and by try and error that the sythroid has an oil in it that is most likelt soy oil, which is a big no go. and also povidone. which is iodine, which is very good if you are hypothyroid but with hashimotos with reactive nodules it must be avoided, finally after 2 years of this trial and error i only take white without colorant without iodine just simple eltroxin. i also take 15 mg little dose of dessicated thyroid which most doctors are very against, but my endocrinologist agreed and that helps my T3 out as well.

Hello, can I increase the dose twice a week and then stay on a lower dose for the remaining days, or should the dose be increased overall for the week? for example, i take 50mcg 5 days and 100mcg twice a week, or should it be increased to 75mcg daily? Please advise.

I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease and now take this medication. It’s only been three weeks and I’m at 0.05 mcg but I’m starting to feel a bit better: no cold hands/feet, exhaustion, joint pain, etc.
Thank you for this video, Doctor!

i was just diagnosed and my dr prescribed me levothyroxine but after doing lots of research i feel like she prescribed entirely too high of a dose and i’m worried, she also doesn’t seem to know much about it or care to answer questions i have. can anyone tell me their tsh levels and their mcg of levothyroxine? she prescribed me to START for the first time with 150mcg of levothyroxine, my tsh is 14.4

Try being 19, diagnosed at 15 but showing no symptoms whatsoever, no family history, just ‘here, take these meds because your blood tests show your thyroid is a little out of it’ ☠️☠️. And now u live with irregular periods which irritates u and that’s pretty much it but I hate how unpredictable it might be. I feel scared at times but I’m keeping a positive attitude and thankful!!!!!
