Nice review. I am able to recommend the Salewa Mountain Trainer Lite as a suitable replacement. They do make a mid.

Hi! I also had an ankle injury recently and looking for trail runner style shoes with ankle support since I’m not as confident wearing a low top on rough terrain anymore, would you say these shoes offer any ankle support or only the cushioning?

HOKA has never been known as a quality built shoe…they are innovative but definitely not built to last more than a year. I don’t know anyone, including reviews I’ve read online that got a full year out of Hoka’s, the sole either wears out or they fall apart within 4-8 months.

I am a couple years on mine in all kinds of situations, and terrain! Everything is solid, still no failures in my view there a fast hiker with tons of protection

This was a good review. I also struggle finding a shoe for the exact same use you speak of. Off trail, scree, etc. I really like the mid because it keeps debris out much better than a low. There’s just not a lot of options for breathable mid shoes. I’ve had the same experience trying shoes like this with so much foam it just doesn’t feel tactile at all. My favorite is the X ultra 4 probably for this reason. Lower profile. They used to make it in the mid but not anymore
